![]() ![]() Colt Ar 15 Pre Ban Serial Numbers And Year This is a Colt R6601 (20' HBAR w/fixed carry handle and full A2 furniture) I purchased new in 1992. Did you check the markings on the barrel? Colt used up all it's older parts before implementing newer ones. If its got a Colt HBAR upper assembly on it, it's probably original. You could call them and see if they still do anything like that as to year of manufacture. myers During the ban, Colt would furnish a letter stating preban status for about $15. Makes it hard to tell if it is original, or tampered with. I knew Colt had a tendancy to use whatever was laying around. Quote: Originally posted by FAL GRUNT So it was made in 1978 or after 1978? I totally missed that prefix in the list of others. I couldn't tell from the pic, but there is also a difference between the A1 and A2 at the receiver extension where the buffer tube goes. Your friend's rifle probably has the less rounded, more square A1 radius. The pic you used has an A2 radius at the front pivot pin. In addition to the slab side, it probably has an oversized front pivot pin. They probably used an SP1 lower (hence the slab side and SP prefix), but put an A2 upper on it and called it an AR-15 A2. Colt was not consistent when changing models. In 1978, it went from five digits to six digits (SP360200 and Below). To add to the confusion (for me at least) his lower is a slab side lower such as reproduced by NoDak these days: What is it? When was it made? Look at the list again. ![]() I did not think there were A2 marked rifles around in 1973! If you exlude the last number, to make it a 5 digit, his falls in 1973. Now when I looked up the serial number here: It does not match the given serial numbers as those are 5 digit, his is a 6 digit. Lower is marked SP2329**, AR-15 A2, HBAR Sporter. I have a friend that wanted me to look up some info on his Colt rifle. Colt Ar 15 Pre Ban Serial Numbers And Year. ![]() Disclaimer: This list is correct to the best of my knowledge, however, I accept absolutely no responsibility for the accuracy of this information. The AR-15 effort represents the second Colt. Colt’s representatives were fairly tight-lipped about the project, but their excitement was palpable. ![]()
